The Hollow Deck will be built as a psychical membership space where people can come to enjoy access to a collection of books to read, games to play, puzzles to make, or just use our comfortable space to bring in their own hobbies to enjoy. There will also be curated events, speakers, live music and more—all in a shared environment designed to allow people to connect and build community.

The Hollow Deck is my effort to create something Sleepy Hollow needs more of: a comfortable, local place to spend time together without needing a dinner reservation, a bar tab, a kids-only activity, or a reason more complicated than “let’s go there.”
This is not a traditional game store. It is not a kids’ playroom. And it is not a private club in the exclusionary sense. It is being designed as a third place: relaxed, social, welcoming, and rooted in the village around it.

Why I’m building this.
My name is Darren Mitchell, and I live in Sleepy Hollow with my family. Through my involvement in our schools, local organizations, and community, I’ve come to realize that even in a vibrant village, it can be surprisingly hard for adults to build lasting social connections.
That’s why I’m creating The Hollow Deck.
It’s not just a place for one hobby, it’s a place to belong. Board games, books, LEGO bricks, puzzles, art, music, and other shared hobbies are simply the spark that brings people together. The real goal is to create a welcoming third place where people can reconnect with old hobbies, discover new ones, meet neighbors, and become regulars in a space that feels like home.
My hope is simple: to build a place where people can come as they are, spend time together through play, and leave feeling a little more connected than when they arrived.
